Saturday Sewing Society

Here is the group picture from the last Saturday Sewing Society. I can't begin to tell you how much we enjoy these gatherings........... Much sharing and laughter all day. Pure joy........


On another note.........

The knitted vest I have been re-knitting for months is nearing the end. I began sewing it together last night.

The quilt that Peg cut out for me in January is the project I picked up on Saturday morning. I have 36 of 48 blocks completed and the other 12 half completed.

I have been trying to follow Hanne's example and limit myself to one project at a time. For me it is most difficult. Now that I have two on the cusp of being finished I must put them aside and work on something else.

Siggies....................

I joined the Dear Jane Siggy swap again this year........... The final count is 135 (I think). I had my stamp made last fall and I have been carrying it around with me in my purse since. I needed to get the fabrico markers to paint my design. I never did find any locally. Today I ordered the markers. Tonight I must start stamping these little darlings. They have to dry overnight and be heat set before I begin the painting process. I even ordered the charm to sew on them today. I sure do hope it all comes together in time.

I Small Glitch

On the 15th of March, our tenant upstairs moved out. Even though the apartment was partially furnished, he asked about purchasing some of the furniture upstairs. We said "Oh, just go ahead and take what you need." After all, we are moving and really did not want to take all that with us. He also needed a desk and we had a small one in Lem's office that he could take.

Oh, but Lem needed that desk to hold stacks of folders so we moved the table from the living room that I had been using for my computer into his office. I re-arranged the furniture and all was well. I put my laptop on the end table by the sofa thinking I could just slip it onto my lap and work. I was WRONG............. The cord to he DSL line was too short. Robert fixed a longer cord for me and Rebekah is to mail it to me this week.

The problem is that it is not easy to download pictures or answer email or do anything on the computer until that longer cord arrives..............

I am getting mor stitching done however........ I suppose that is one upside.

Saturday Sewing Society

I did get some of the pictures from our last meeting of the Saturday Sewing Society uploaded this weekend.............


It was a tablerunner week. Here is one made by Jean for St. Patrick's day.


This is Lynn's from the Kaitlin's Garden pattern.




Eleanor made several Four Stack Posy blocks and used them to turn out these three table runners.

Judy used the same Four Stack Posy idea to make a small table runner for her table. She keeps telling us how small it is..........

The Final Two Blocks

This morning I cut the sashing and blocks for the border. Tomorrow I can start the final assembly. I read somewhere about putting blocks into the dryer to tumble so that they will get mixed up. Then you are supposed to reach into the bag and pull one out and go from there. Knowing me I better give that a try or I will spend the next six months trying to plan this correctly.


If it works I am going to use this method to mix up my nine patches for my Nine Patch Nutter quilt.

Two More Done and Two to Go.

Here are numbers nine and ten. Eleven and twelve are next. Then I can start putting this puppy together.

Dana at Old Red Barn Co. is actually giving a quilt away............ Just think, a soft hug you don't have to sew the binding on...........

I also checked out her Sugar Scrub. Looks like something I need to order.

More Crazy Mama Quilts Blocks

Here are the next two blocks. Number seven and eight. What a wonderful way to start the day by putting a quilt block together.

I got the splint off yesterday and now I am getting acquainted with my arm again. How good it feels to be able to type with two hands instead of one hand and a thumb. Now I can respond to a few comments each day till I get caught up.

A Few More Things

At last I have all 24 Ohio Star blocks.............. Now on to the next step in part 6.

Someone did ask what was wrong with the other block. They were noreply so I will answer here.

The hourglass blocks were turned wrong on two sides........... They are all done now.

These are terrible pictures of another bracelet. It does look better in real life.

We are having sunshine this afternoon and I really need the boost. I tend to droop in dreary weather. I am looking forward to moving south where there is more sun.

Class with Barry. I have my bag packed and I am ready. Not sure what I will be working on. I got out a piece in the scroll frame but I was not able to stitch. The wrist really needs to bend to do that.

I kept tripping over a necklace kit downstairs so I brought it up for evening work. I got a good start last night but it will go on hold for a couple of nights. Tonight I am out and Thursday is Guild.

Steve, the tenant upstairs has been moving all week. He said that he planned to be gone this weekend. Then I will have to get that area cleaned and painted....... I really don't know how much time this will take and I don't want it to take up much of my stitching time.

Sunday Evening

Unsewing complete...... Ready for stitching tomorrow. Just not up to it today.



I wanted a change so I made a few bracelets instead. There was one more just like the top one but I gave it to Lu when she stopped by.

Stash Report

I had the opportunity yesterday to participate in a little shopping. Since I keep a folder with quilt ideas and such it is easy to go on the spur of the moment.

This sheet has been in the folder for almost a year but I never found what I wanted. Yesterday was the day.......



This is what I came home with. Quite the departure from my usual choices and I am not sure how it will turn out but time will tell.



After checking in yesterday morning I found this quilt at The Calico Cat and immediately thought this would be perfect for my brother.





Vickie was making a quit using the colors in the strip on the left. It seemed perfect so she gave a slice to me to use for color choices.



I also picked up these fabrics. The fat quarter on top has great color that does not show up well in the picture. It might end up as a purse because I really like it.

The blue is to make mug bags for the Saturday Sewing Society.

The pink is backing for a quilt for Mama and the others just spoke to me.


Lets just say that I added more yards than I used and leave it at that.

Morning Report

I got the three sections sewn and began to assemble my block...................



Those that made the Carolina Crossroads quilt will recognize at once the problem. Today I get to dance with Mr Seamripper to undo what I did yesterday. Once upon a time this would have caused great consternation. Today however I will choose to get a big laugh at myself and just enjoy what I am doing. After all it will get done soon.

Sorry friends, I must leave for awhile. Vickie just called and I have an opportunity to go to several fabric shops with her today. Totally unexpected but a wonderful opportunity.

Quiltathon

Ready to grab my basket and coffee and head downstairs. Perhaps the next time you see this fabric it will be in completed block form.

First Finish of the Year

Last night I put the last stitch in Peg's cross stitch. I can give it to her when I see her on Thursday. It is not my best work because it was done one handed. But it is finished.

Getting Ready

Slept late this morning so I did not get to finish all of the house blessing. I did spend an hour clearing the table and getting the studio in proper order. Of course I found another half dozen projects that I want to do NEXT.............. I have decided to just clear the cutting table and the sewing table. All else can wait.

Nifty Fifty Blocks

Quiltathon March 1 - 2

This morning found me vacuuming......... Laundry almost done. Only two rooms left to bless and I will have the weekend free for sewing.

I am planning some meals now and I will begin cooking this afternoon. If all is well I will be set to go on Saturday morning.

Judy has once again planned a treat for us by organizing a QUILTATHON.......

I am going to use this time to assemble the Carolina Crossroads Quilt designed and shared with us by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville fame.

If there is time I will work on the Block a Week Quilt designed and shared by Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts.

If I manage to get those two tops done I will feel that this year might turn around for me. Only being able to use one hand and the other one just a little has put a definite crimp in my plans.


This is going to be a great time had by all. Why don't you join us?

STASH REPORT

I must confess, I purchased fabric. I needed a couple more yards for the Suzanne Pratt swap. I also needed to get the fabric for the trim on Lu's shawl. While I was there this precious pink print spoke to me and I took the 1 1/2 yds left on the bolt so that I could get the 30% discount. Of course I needed more muslin for the Dear Jane Siggy Swap and a piece of pink fusion to go with my pink print. Total purchased was 8 yards. I did manage to use about one yard making the blocks for Suzanne Pratt. I suppose that makes me up by 6 1/2 yards

Saturday Sewing Society

We had the most wonderful day. Sharing and sewing and sharing and eating and did I mention sharing?

Judy is looking at the weights Joan made. Joan put pieces of lead in brocade bags with handles. She uses them to hold down pattern pieces for rotary cutting.

Jean worked on a quilt for her camper.

And here we all are at lunch............... Good cooks in this group. Vickie and Peg were at home with Flu. Nancy was snowbound in Amish country with all those quilt shops. Lynn was doing grandmother duty. Luanne, Ruth and Barbara are keeping warm in Florida. Maybe next month we can all be together.
