The Time Has Come

I have been looking at this for some time.  I have even partially assembled two quilts and just hung them on top of this one........  The time has come to get on with it........ Not being sure of what I am doing does make me want to postpone it but there is a deadline and I need to get it done.

This is the section I have decided to tackle first.......

I started by making a graph so that I could determine the sashing sizes needed....  The hexagons will be appliqued in place and I need to sew the flying geese together to get an exact size but this is a good start....

It will be interesting to see just how far along I get today.

Another Finish

Another wee sampler that I kitted a few years ago......... Amazing the things I find (and lose) as I continue to organize the upstairs............ 

I uncovered a cross stitch started back in 1986...........Almost finished...........I have the perfect place to hang it but I have lost it again........  Maybe it will turn up again in a few days..........

This Week

This promises to be another full week...........  I need to get this quilt put together and ready to baste before the third Wednesday in June so that I can demonstrate Sharon Schambers method of basting a quilt alone..

We are trying out some new recipes from a cookbook given to me by a friend.....  Last night was Herb Simmered Beef Stew.......Delicious..

Last Friday I went with friends to Happy's, an antique shop in the area.......  Found a few things to change the living room a bit.............  This replaced an Easter decoration.

Went upstairs this morning to select fabric for another Quilt Along.......  No I have not finished the last quilt from Judy's Quilt Along but I see no reason for that to keep me from joining in on this one..........

Oh Happy Day...........

Okay, so it was the last week in April but this is the first time I have had time to get to the computer...  Maybe I should rearrange my priorities..............

WE HAD GUEST................  Dear Jean came to visit......... All the way from Cape Cod..........  And what did I do for entertainment?  We went to a family reunion of course.............. 

Road to Round Rock..............

I worked as often as I could this week but still did not manage to get up to date on my Road to Round Rock.  I thought I was close this morning but realized that I had not turned the page on the instructions for one of the steps so I will need to do a bit of frogging before I can start to assemble......

I finally found time this week to work in the studio......  I am trying to catch up on The Road to Round Rock.

Rebekah was able to close on her house Thursday afternoon.  The movers are scheduled to deliver her furniture on Friday..........  Looks like another busy week ahead.........

Design Wall Monday

A week ago I was in charge of the BOM at our guild.........  Everyone was to bring in any block..........  There were many doubters but I am pleased to say that it went rather well.........  There are several gifted people in our guild and this is the quilt they designed.............

Things keep happening here in Eastern North Carolina.........  Lem was not well last week and we finally spent seven hours in the Emergency Room Saturday night....He is on the road to recovery at last.....

I was unable to get into the studio for the last week and a half........  Now it is time to update my TO DO list and see if I can begin to move forward..........

Design Wall Monday

Two finishes this week.........  Lucinda's Gift is complete at last...I began it in 2011 as a Quilt Along and got the top done and then put it aside........  Well, it is finally quilted and bound.........  It was mailed Friday to my granddaughter and she should get it tomorrow....... 

The next big finish was completing the final block for Leanne's House.......  I loved making this quilt.  A good mix of piecing, applique and embroidery........  Each block assembled quickly until the last half of the last block...... We moved........Twice.......  Its parts got separated.......  Thanks to the encouragement of Judy at Patchwork Times I gathered it all together and finished the last block........  Now to find some one to quilt it for me..........  I don't mind confessing that my hand quilting is abysmal at best and I want something special on this quilt that will enhance the embroideries........

On Needles Friday.....

No, not my knitting needles......  I was surprised to see that I had not had the computer on since Monday....

I have been tackling my March List.........


I finished one item from the February list.........  One smocked dress ready for Abigail Jane......

Thanks to the pattern from Erin at Dogs Under My Desk I made a new harness for Wade Hamilton.  Of course I had to take 24 pictures to get one worthy of showing........

I also made a harness for Daisy and TJ...........  The tutorial was well written and even I could follow it....  Rebekah is going today for more fabric for more harnesses..........I am glad they are easy to make.

I finished the pillow I wanted to make to match the quilt I finished in January..........

I was pleased at how well it turned out.........

I also completed 7 ruffle scarves............  No pictures of them.  If you have seen one you have seen them all.

Design Wall Monday

Every Monday Judy at Patchwork Times hosts Design Wall Monday.......  A great place to see what others are working on and to get new ideas.........  Also a great place to get you in trouble as you thrust aside your current projects and start another one..........  To compensate Judy also host a monthly list to encourage you not to get too far off track.............

On my list this month was to finish the last block of Leanne's House......  I gathered together the different parts and found that I only had three embroideries to do and assemble the last half of the last block.....

Will I get that done this week?  Time will tell.

Saturday.....

Chicken Genovese for dinner tonight.........  Found the recipe when I was clearing out a few things........

Of course I forgot to take the picture when all the ingredients were there but here are the last three....

I can't decide if it looks better cooking or smells better cooking....  Has Rosemary and Basil in it not to mention red pepper, onions and mushrooms cooked in olive oil.....

Add a tossed salad and dinner is done.......  Next time I am going to serve it over linguine...

The postal service delivered my fabric for the Quilt Along that Judy at Patchwork times is hosting HERE..... I could not find what I needed upstairs so I placed an order with Thousands of Bolts HERE.....  They have a color matcher on their website that helps with the selection.....Each of the blues have a touch of green in them.  This is going to be one great quilt...........

Get It Done - March

Well, only three items left on the list for this month....... Not on the list is the ruffled scarves that I work on each night.......  Nor the preemie socks and hats that were made and given away.....
As you can see from the list on the sidebar many other things were finished but the main four are complete.

I lost too many points and I did not have enough contrast in color selection.........

The Pause That Refreshes.....

Only a few things left on the list for this month and they are things that are not my favorite things so I took a break to indulge myself in something new.......

This is the first block of three......I must confess that the great closet cleaning was done to get to my scrap bins.........  Now on to block two..........

The Beginning

My friend Peg has the greatest studio.........  Her cutting table and sewing machine are in one room and all of her fabric is in another........  That means that in her studio is only the project she is completing......  It is also decorated with her special mementos and even a rocking chair to sit in to sew........  Her cutting table is a cabinet with storage for implements and she has a desk with her sewing machine on it......  It is a lovely place to sew with lovely things for the eye to rest on and no added distractions that make you want to do the next project instead of finishing the one on hand.........  Perhaps that is why she gets so much accomplished.

I have decided to tackle my studio........  The first thing is the double closet.  I thought it would be a good place to put the filing cabinet but that was not a good idea......  I have three ten drawer rolling cabinets that I purchased once a month for the past three months and as soon as my son can he will take the filing cabinet out and I can put the rolling cabinets there instead.......  Next I will want a framed pegboard to hang over the cabinets...........

This is the view today......I everything out and now have a large stack of things to go upstairs and three bags of trash..........

In the area on either side I plan to make two bookcases with adjustable shelves........  Not sure how to do that but as soon as Jason will take me to Lowes in his truck I will be coming home with lumber.....

  

Design Wall Monday

On the design wall today is my third BOM from Temecula Quilt Company........  I am enjoying this project so much......  Doesn't take long to do one block and I can fit it in with other projects..........

Now I have three blocks completed.... This months block came on Saturday but I plan to put that on the list for March........

On the Needles Friday

One more pair of wee socks to be done and this gift set will be ready to go......  I cut out 8 shirts and have four of them complete...... The last four need snaps and I need to buy more.......

If you know of anyone with a preemie let me know and I will mail a set to you as a gift.  The front and sides are snapped so that they can be left open in case there are IV's that need to be placed there....  Rebekah and I are enjoying the making of these sets...........

I got an idea from Pinterest and actually follow through........  This is a Ragu spaghetti sauce jar. I glued a wooden know to the top then painted it red.......  The ribbon and hearts are from the dollar tree.... The hearts were 60 to a package so there are lots of them left and there is extra ribbon on the reel.....  Some home baked chocolate chip cookies and I had a gift for the raffle table at the guild.....

Tuesday I made two King Cakes........  One for the Fat Tuesday party and one for the guild..... They were delicious.......  I think that today I will try using that recipe and altering it a bit............

Design Wall Monday and Other Things

Block two of the Lori Smith BOM is complete.......  When I finish block three I will be up to date with that
project.

Jason and Kim came by last night with Andrew.......  He is really growing up.....  The basket of his toys sits on the landing and he heads straight there when he comes over..........

Today I will be making hospital shirts for small ones........  Rebekah and I both have friends with Preemie babies so we want them to have something special...........

Design Wall Monday........

Ready to be quilted...........  I used every scrap of material I was given to make this quilt with the addition of the brown from my stash.......  I saved the HST's cut off from making the block and used them for the border.....The binding will be a combination of the solid blue and the beige print......
