A Little Diversion

Try as I will, my chair in the family room seems to collect clutter.....  When I finally get to sit in it I don't want to move so I try to have all I might need close at hand.........  When I applique that requires many different colors of thread so there is even more chazerai........

While working in the studio for the past few weeks my eye kept lighting on a thread holder that was my mothers...... Each time I would think that I really needed to replace the little strawberry on top and make better use of it...........

Monday I took a few minutes (less than 30 to be exact) and made a new strawberry for the top........

Now, doesn't that look much better?????

Monday and Tuesday was spent babysitting my granddogs.........  Our daughter is moving to be closer to us and I stayed at home while husband and son went with her to help her move.....You always need a General left at Headquarters to keep things going while you are away and I filled that place......

I made sure there were good meals ready when they returned and kept the home fires burning.........

There is still one thing on the first page of my list........  Assemble Kim's sweater......  A job I really don't like to do at all............Today is the day........  I will force my self to get that done so that I can at last turn the page before the month ends............

Hopefully tomorrow I can get caught up on my email..................

Design Wall Monday

Another week when some sewing was accomplished...........  Nothing is left on my first page of things to do but sew together Kim's sweater...............

My Carolina Lily blocks are completed and ready to give to Mary............

The first block of the Temecula Quilt Company BOM is done................

And all the blocks for Kate's quilt are assembled and ready for borders........

This is the pattern I used for this quilt............  It took two packages of Charm Squares and the corner fabric to make the quilt so far.........  I found the chocolate brown in my stash and there was 3/4 of an inch left.....
Head on over to Patchwork Times to see what else is on display this morning.  HERE

Jane came by yesterday and I gave two of them to her............  This pink one is for her too..........

Not many visitors this week so there is little progress on my sock.......  Thank you Peg for the sock sack....

Design Wall Monday

Judy at Patchwork Times host Design Wall Monday........ You can see what others have done HERE ....This helps keep me on the right path instead of always starting something else......

As you can see not much has changed in months.........  I do hope that with the new year I will be able to get more done.........

The quilt is one that was begun in the fall ..............  The directions for a quilt block to be made for the Guild.
The clock kit to repair a clock that has stopped working........  Instructions on adding the Prairie Points to a quilt in the making........The basket contains the beginnings of a sweater for my sister...... It is sitting on the cross stitch ornaments I want to make for next Christmas..........

Now to stop typing and get started on fixing Marilyn's draperies.......

I did manage to finish another scarf last night.........  Well, not really finish........  I have to stitch the ends in place........  I have a bag full of them and hope to sew them all at one time.

On the Needles Friday

Judy at Patchwork Times host this each week........... You can go HERE to see what else it going on in Blogland

Well, really off the needles......... Another scarf is finished........ I did knit on a pair of socks for a bit and finished another baby hat and two pairs of baby socks but that is normal just sitting and knitting........

The scarf project has a life of its own.........  This is the bag of yarn I bought on sale last week and I hope to knit my way to the bottom before St. Patrick's day...................

This is my list so far...........  I thought I would work my way through all the things I have in the studio as of January 1st this year........... Don't know if I can accomplish that goal but I sure intend to try..........

As you can see, scarves for dogs is next on the list........I need to make six of them but only have fabric for five..........   If all goes well I can get them marked off the list today..............

And then it happened..........  Temecula Quilt Company posted that they had three spaces available on a Lori Smith BOM........ I just could not resist..........  Yes I will prep one of these jewels today and start on it tonight...........

One Week Later

I am still taking down the Christmas decorations......  Maybe I will finish before the month ends........

The usual this week.........  The family reunion committee met here for lunch on Tuesday......  That meant Monday was getting ready and Tuesday afternoon Marilyn and I went to JoAnn Fabrics to get even more yarn......  Marilyn bought a ruffle scarf and wanted to know if we could make them..........  Since there was a sale I stocked up..........  I got a few made in the evenings.........  Even finished another pair of tiny socks...(no picture, if you have seen one then you have seen them all).  Now I want to get some scarves made for my Sunday School class..........

On Thursday Kathy came over to sew with me.......... We had a grand time stitching together.......  I put the ironing board up in the dining room and we spread out on the table.........  It is all still there so today I will need to clear up a bit............

I had Taco soup left from the weekend so we all sat down for a lovely lunch...........  Thanks for coming by Kathy it was a wonderful time..........

Reality

This is how my studio usually looks..........  This is where things get brought in and just put on any flat surface.  Usually I clear up before I start work.......  By then time is up and I need to do something else.....
This year I am going to try to finish only what I can see in the room before I get out or start something else....... Time will tell if that works.

Three dresses to be assembled and finished...........

One dress finished and ready to mail.

We shall see just how far this goes toward getting something done.......

Now off to bless the master suite........  It has been neglected lately......

Off To A Good Start

Before I begin a New Year I need to finish updating the last one...............

I have not blogged much lately because I have been enjoying the Holidays.........  I do hope you have enjoyed them too.............

Thanksgiving gave Lem and Jason time to watch a ball game together..........Yes that is a Bonnie Hunter design quilt on the sofa.........  Wade Hamilton thinks that we bought that sofa for him so I try to keep it covered unless we have guest..........

We had a swan visit us one day after Thanksgiving.......... First one I have seen here........

After getting the decorations up for Christmas I had the Neuse Quilt Guild here for a holiday luncheon.
This is the dining room.....

Buffet held the special ornaments I have made over the years and the tree on the left is decorated with knitted beaded tassels......  Everyone was asked to untie a tassel and take it with them.

This is a sewing table that is in the dining room.......... It was made by my grandfather.

The entry has my Creche.........That is the most important part of the Season in our home.

We pushed all the furniture against the wall and set up tables in the living room...........

The desk in the corner has more trees...........  Can you tell how much I like trees........?

The tall tree is decorated in Red White and Blue..........  My patriotic tree...........  I am hoping that next year it will be decorated with Christmons..........  I have several embroidery books on making them and I have called Barry at Town Ho in Brewster, MA to order the necessary threads and fabrics..........

The breakfast table is all ready for the deserts.......  I made Brunswick Stew and everyone else brought the deserts..............  The white table cloth was one that I knitted our of tobacco twine............

The stairway is decorated with a tree of china cups and tea pots....  the stockings were made several years ago.............  I have more quilted projects planned for next year...........

The sweet tea (house wine of the South) and glasses are all on the kitchen counter.  There was also unsweet tea and coffee.........

Lemuel and I decided last year to end gift giving except for the very young members of the family.....  We love them all year not just in December........  The Gift of Salvation is such a wonderful gift from our Heavenly Father........ That is all anyone needs...........

This is the quilt made from the blocks I won from my friends of the Neuse Quilters Guild.......  I invited them here so all could see that the quilt was done..........

Rebekah loaned me her Charley Brown tree for the guest room.......

The stuffed tree was from my sister...........

A closer view of the trees on the desk.........

The tree in the Master Bedroom.........

The tree in the guest bathroom........

The tree in the Master Bathroom..............
As you can see the windows are not hung with curtains yet and the walls are somewhat bare......  It will take me several years to get the house as I want it to be........

As for this year I plan to work on unfinished projects............  I have plenty of those...........
