Following a suggestion

It was suggested that I try blue instead of red..........  I went upstairs to search for a blue piece and this is what I found.............
I thought I would give it a try without the flag........  I am still not too sure about adding that to the center.........

Design Wall Floor Monday

Since the basket quilt is on the design wall I am having to use the floor for the quilt I am working on right now.

The original idea was to incorporate the flag with the other blocks but I am beginning to think that I will take the flag out and use it else where...........  Any ideas?
Ideas abound on design walls all over..........  Check out Design Wall Monday at Patchwork times HERE...

Moving Right Along

Thursday and Friday were spent doing yard work..........  More pictures later when I get something finished....

I was just finishing up late Friday afternoon when I managed to cut my arm requiring a trip to Urgent Care for treatment and a tetanus shot.........  Just what I needed.....  Joyce has been coming over each day to change the dressing for me.........  Tomorrow I go back to have it checked again.............

The good part of Friday was getting my fabric from Thousands of Bolts.....  The top one is for the Basket Quilt.  The second one is for the SAHRR .........  The one on the bottom is for the Guild Quilt Challenge.....
Now I am set for some time with projects lined up......

I have been working on string blocks for a quilt for the Veterans Home......  Playing around with the idea of putting a flag in the middle of one.......  We shall see.

A few more made and ready to make into blocks........

And four more to sew...............

I went upstairs and found this red to use as sashing.......  My first thought was "Oh, I like that fabric, if I use it for this quilt it will be gone"...........  Then reality dawned and I remembered that there is lots more fabric in the world and I will surely get more..........

We also purchased 30 more bags of mulch to be spread.......  I sure will be busy next week........  Glad I got the grass cut because it rained today and it will surely be growing..........

A Typical Day

After my last post I decided to do as Judy of Patchwork Times recommends and blog EVERYTHING in one day......  It will be a challenge to see if I can get to the computer that often.......

It is now 8:01 and I have already I have folded one load of laundry and put another load in..........  Finished loading the dishwasher and pushed its buttons...  Things seem to be Humming Along nicely here so far......I have also cut a few flowers from the front yard for a wee arrangement.......

It is a small round table beside Lem's chair..........  The table was made by my grandfather and has an inlay in the center of satinwood and ebony........  It as a reproduction of a candle stand and does open with a space to put a candle..............

Now off to prep the vegetables for dinner tonight.......

Well that is done......  All safely in the fridge till tonight when I will roast them..........  I looked it up on the internet so this will be an experiment for me.  There is some BBQ pork roast in the freezer that I will get out to warm up to go with the meal......

I need to use the ham bone from the ham I baked so decided to cook some Pinto Beans......  The bone is simmering and I put the beans in a pot of water, brought it to a boil and then turned it off.  In an hour they will be ready to add to the ham........

Might as well make some jello while I am at it......  I would make some pudding but not enough milk for that.

Jello with fruit cocktail to go with lunch........  Wash up a few dishes I used

One load in the dryer and the last load of wash in the washer..........

Now time to dress and head outside till lunch time...........

Well, I got some yard work done at last...........

The golf cart is loaded with all of the gardening things......  It makes it so easy to go from place to place and carries all I need..........  Wade and I also like to ride around the area most days just to get out a bit.

The Phlox planted on the berm by the lake........  I am hoping that it will take hold and spread.....  That seems so much easier to maintain than anything else I can think of........

Mulch spread around the Fig Tree........  and rocks placed around the mulch and around the plants on the berm.

The hydrangea we moved from Perry Park is starting to come out.  I am hoping it will do well so that we can share it with all the family members...............

I am not sure exactly what these flowers are.......  They were also growing at Perry Park.......  Maybe they will be ready to divide and share later.................

The lavendar will have to wait till we purchase more mulch in order to be planted.......  It seems to be looking healthy still...........

I even dug a bit around one of the Carolina Jasmines on the pergola..................

Inside to fix lunch..........  Baked chicken sandwiches with tomato and lettuce, potato salad and some of the jelllo I made earlier.

And then a wee toes up........  I simply adore naps and I take one when ever possible.

Up again...................  Beans done and the ham cut off the bone and added back into them.....  They will be supper tomorrow night with cornbread and kielbasa and collards.......  They are cooling now to be placed in the outside refrigerator for the morrow.......

Chicken and BBQ Pork put out to thaw...........  I need to bake chicken for us and for Wade.......  Maybe baked chicken tomorrow and the beans the day after.....  We shall see....  Wade Hamilton likes chicken breast and he is such a small dog that it is less expensive to bake it for him than it is to deal with dog food.  I usually bake the large package......  We have it for supper on the night I bake it, some is put in a container for him and some us used for chicken salad or just sliced for sandwiches for lunch......

More dishes washed up and the dishwasher emptied......  Now to finish folding the laundry.....

Laundry folded and put away, clean sheets put on the bed in the guest room....  Back outside to see just what trouble I can get into.

I found three pin oaks volunteering in a flower bed last year and saved them.  They still had the acorns attached. They are now planted in our yard.........  It will be interesting to see if I can keep them alive....  Time will tell.

Back inside to prepare dinner

Just drain the veggies and place them in the oven.  Warm the BBQ and bake the corn sticks...  This is where I failed........  Completely forgot to take pictures......

Anyhow........  That is how one day goes.  Now off to see what I can do with this one...  I am getting a later start but that happens sometimes..........

Wednesday Already?

I am not sure just where all the time rushes off to......   I was trying to be better about posting but here it is Wednesday already..........

Last Friday was Movie Night here in Fountain Hill..........  We try to get together once a month to watch a movie together.......  We really talk a lot and watch a little but I sure do enjoy myself......

Here are Marilyn and Fleming.........

Georgina and Carol.........

And Jane and Joyce with me in the middle...............

I also tried to get some sewing done on the blocks I brought home from the guild for Veteran Quilts.......

I will be string piecing some blocks and I do have an idea in mind for one with these blocks.........
Now back to work..........

I Really Did It............

I can't believe that I actually did thi but here it is.................

This is my design for the Blocks I won a the Guild.........  What do you think?  Any suggestions are appreciated................

No Sewing, Just Cooking

If I am not enjoying the studio then I can enjoy the kitchen..........  I asked Jason and Kim for dinner last night since I would be cooking a ham.....  I planned to give the kitchen a thorough cleaning yesterday also.  Needless to say, that did not happen......

I had my list and I still did not finish with everything.....

I like to keep jello on hand......  It is great with a sandwich at lunch.....  The last time I made jello it did not jell... How can you mess up Jello.....  Well, I did............  The refrigerator has been full and I have not made any for a couple of weeks.......  I got some ready yesterday.  I also did some pudding for Lem but he ate all of it before I got the picture made..........
I had to boil eggs for the potato salad so I boiled a few more for deviled eggs........  Another easy thing to make that adds a touch to lunch......  We eat a lot of eggs these days.......
Of course I got the potato salad finished............
And I made a Blackberry Wine cake for Jason.......  This as you can see did not go too well......  It still tasted good...  I got the recipe from Judy at Patchwork times.  You can find it  here .
The collards were washed and ready to cook later......
No picture of the ham because it was spiral cut and I took the bone out before I baked it to use in cooking the collards.......  It was a grand meal............

This is what was outside the window this morning.........  Another Glorious Day to Praise the Lord.....

Done - Done - and to be Done

I finished the assembly of the Guild Quilt..........  Now if the backing comes in time I can get it layered Wednesday and quilted next week.............

I have also finished the assembly of Lucinda's Gift...........  This is a quilt along I joined last year..... I would like to have circular feathers quilted in each color and cream section.......  I can't spend that money right now so this top will go into my "To Be Quilted" drawer.  There are two tops in there now..........

This are the quilt block I won at the guild last year......  I need to get them assembled into a quilt...  I am going to try to play with electric quilt for a bit to come up with a setting.........  I have never used my electric quilt and perhaps now is the time.....

But first I will need to do some work in the house and spread some mulch in the yard and mow the grass.....

I even got two new toys this weekend to help with the yard work.................

Saturday Already?

I really don't know where the time goes.........  I seem to stay busy but accomplish so little.

Lu, here is the picture I promised you...............  Last Friday we went to Yoder's for breakfast.  They also have a feed and farm supply store where I purchased a hat to wear in the garden.....  I told Lem that I needed a riding lawnmower to ride on while I wore my hat........  This is what he came home with.....  It will be put to good use as the lot is one acre and Lem has such allergies that the mowing falls to me.....

I did get the grass cut and I have been watching it grow........  Looks like I will need to do it again soon..

Our Guild is making quilts for the new Veteran's Home that will be opening here soon.....  I ordered some
two and a half inch strips from Keepsake Quilts in Salute colors................ They came with an easy quilt pattern....

In between cooking and cleaning and visiting with guest I did manage to get them all cut.................

And sewn and pressed..............Now I have to finish putting together the quilt that is on the design board so that I can get that one on............  I plan to chip away on that project today in between tasks.........

Yesterday Marilyn and I went to Bojangles for breakfast and then to get our nails done....  There is a new gel polish that fills in the ridges in your nails......  I have one that splits so she put acrylic on that one but the rest are just gel........  It does not last as long as acrylic but it does cost a lot less..........  I promised Lu a picture of my nails so here it is...................
