What, still don't know? It is a plate of brownies.
I have three boxes of cocoa for some reason and I am trying to use it up. I found a recipe for brownies that called for 1/3 cup and that seemed like it would help me with the problem.
The last time i tried brownies I used a box mix. Yes, I did over cook them. Hockey pucks would have been easier to eat.
The recipe said DO NOT OVERCOOK. It also said to cook for 25 to 30 minutes. At the end of 25 minutes I checked... Hmmm.. still rather soupy in the center. 30 minutes I checked. A bit better but still not firm at all. 33 minutes. Still not firm but the edge seems to be VERY firm.
I took them out and they sort of fell in the center. The recipe had icing to put in them and the instructions were to put in while the brownies were hot. So I did. Can you tell they didn't turn out too well. My sister said that perhaps my cocoa was out of date. Who knew that cocoa had a sell by date. I haven't checked that yet and if I do and it is past I am not telling. After all, my sister is always right and why give her one more thing to laugh about......Any suggestions?
Okay, I looked and I could not find a expiration date....... Lem tried a piece and said that it tasted good......I am glad because he has a plate full of them to eat.

So what's wrong with a spoonful of brownies...?
Okay... I have a few "issues" with my oven, too.
I have to put my food on the top shelf (or vice versa) and 1/2 way or 3/4 of the cooking, I have to inverse the plate. In other words, if it started on the top shelf, I have to put it on the bottom. *s*
I honestly don't think that the expiry date would make a big difference, for your cocoa. Most times, expiry dates are REALLY important on... yeast, baking soda and baking powder. Hmm... maybe it's those items that the date has expired, eh?
Here's my "Crazy Cake" recipe. You can add more cocoa in it, if you wish. This is, IMHO, idiot proof and fail proof and you don't even have to dirty a bowl! *grin*

It's a chocolate cake, but in a square pan. Also, once it's cooked and cooled down, you can poke holes in the top, with your fork, or a steak knife - whatever... and pour (freshly made) chocolate pudding, on top. It's like an easy smeasy icing!
Hope this helps!

My daughter recently made chocolate cake and had the same problem. I think it has to do with the temperature. I'm not sure if the problem is having it too high or too low - I thought it was having it too high, but I think her problem was the temperature was too low.
The problem I have to watch out for around here is humidity. I can only seem to bake correctly when we have no humidity. Go figure. I am leery of newspaper and magazine recipes because of where it originated. A recipe from Florida will have to be adjusted for here in Colorado. Good luck.
They look yummy to me! I like my brownies a bit gooey! And I agree with Bonnie...a sponful of brownies can be a very good thing! We make fudge every Chistmas and sometimes we have to eat it with a spoon too! LOL
Eh... expiration date for cocoa... yes, it excists, but unless it has been exposed to something special (extreme humidity...) it pretty much lasts forever. Except in my house - the easiest, and most delish chocolate muffins calls for 8 tbsp cocoa :o)
2 eggs
200 gr sugar
130 gr plain flour
8 tbsp cocoa
1 tsp vanilla sugar
just over 1/2 cup milk (any liquid will do, I've used orange juice, water, left over vanilla sauce...)
just over 1/2 oil/melted butter
Just stir it all together, add to muffin cups or to a bread pan - cook 350F - yummy!!!
My cooking doesn't always come out the way I hope either, but hey, if they taste good, then that's better than them looing wonderful and tasting bad.
The plate the brownies are on is so pretty. Would you care to share the maker of that pattern - I really like it!
Hi Susan.... It is caused by the humidity on the Cape... I love you new picture on the top of the page... I can picture you sitting at the table and working on your hand work... Sure do miss that Southern accent... Take care and Miss you... Love ya Jean M. :)
