If Necessity is the Mother of Invention

Then perhaps Frugality is the mother of Creativity?

You might remember The Bag (picture in side bar).

Well, Judy over at Patchwork Times is having a Quilt A Long...... She is going to make us work for our pattern this time. No more saving up for a later date (as I have done on her Star Blocks). You will have to show proof that you are working to get the next set of instructions. Not to worry. She has a fail safe built in if you need the pattern later.

As always it is her use of fabric and borders that make the design exceptional. This time she is using strips for a completely different look.

After the MRI on Friday (results a week from tomorrow) I had hoped to go by Heartbeat Quilts to see what I could use for this quilts. We didn't get finished before Heartbeat closed so there went that plan. I looked at what I had on hand but nothing spoke to me. I planned to go by Murray's but just was not in the mood for fabric shopping... (yes this can happen). I even checked out Thousands of Bolts but nothing spoke to me.

Then I remembered The Bag.......................

Last night I dumped it on the guest bed and began to see what was there. I have always thought a Bear Paw would be great in plaids......

Judy had given enough information so that I knew what size fabric I would need for the large part of each block. I selected a few and put them in the studio until this morning. I wanted daylight for color selection.

This is the ecru I selected...............

I found this brown in my stash that I am using in place of the red in the original quilt.

This morning I cut the squares for the 12 Bear Paws.

The only thing I am not confident about is the sashing between the Bear Paw blocks. After work I will head off to Murray's to see what I can find.

I have also decided to name this quilt Sims McGrath. I like the name and it seems to fit this fabric. That also sounds like the name for a Bear of a man.......

I like that. It has a good ring. It is so true. The higher the yardage prices go, the more creative I'm getting! :-)
Those are neat pieces you found in your bag. Sims McGrath fits them well.
Blessings!
